The village named Hrishyamukh has a long history. According to British Political Agent some part of the village is now in Bangladesh (Chakla Bazar) and some in India. In the year 1875 there was an Army out-post in this village. This was one of the seven out-posts. This village had a Police station also which is indicative of its importance as a village. Hrishyamukh Higer Secondary school is one of the century old renowned schools in Tripura. But neither the school nor the department of school education have any recored regarding the date of foundation of the institution. The School has a chequered history of its own. This school in nascent form was a pathsala that was founded by Rambali Ganchowdhury in 1898. According to Govt. record one Mr. Fajala Ali had a scholarship of Rs.2/- per month in the year 1902-03 when he was in class II which confirms the establishment of the school in the year 1998.Rambali was an employee of the royal Government of Tripura and his place of posting was at the tahashil cacahari of Hrishyamukh. He founded the patsala at Hrishyamukh at a place adjacent to his office and engaged one teacher i.e. Gagan Biswas to teach the children. For about 15 years 1898-1912 Rambali struggled to keep the patsala running in spite of inadequate funds. The main course of study was primary Bengali, elementary arithmetic and preliminary English. After the retirement of Gagan Biswas another teacher named kshirod Sen joined and after him Rajani Kanta Sen joined this institute as a teacher. The school was upgraded to Nimna Bangla (up to class-IV) before 1912. In the year 1938 the school further upgraded to ME (up to class-VI). This phase coincide with the reign of Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya Bahadur and Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
A decade later the situation was improving a little. The problem of housing was largely solved by Nabin Chandra Chakraborty. The school building was refurbished. The appointment of Basanta Kumar Chakraborty as headmaster in 1921 gave the school a stable administration that lasted for more than three decades. In the mean time it was able to draw the attention of the Government i.e. reign of Maharaja Birbikram Manikya Bahadur and Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur (1923-1949). During this period the school was recognized as a middle English school. It became one of the school of the royal administration. The number of subjects to be taught was increased. The salary of the teachers was also increased. Six classes were added to the infant class. Demise of Maharaj Birbikram Manikya Bahadur caused tremendous loss to the Schools. The existence of the school became in danger. In this period the local people took the initiative and opened class VII in 1957. In 1958-1959 the Government responded positively and approved the opening of class VII and VIII. Henceforth the school was upgraded to junior high school. After a few years the local people demanded another step of up-gradation to open class IX And X. In 1965 private students (eleven) from Hrishyamukh sat for the school final examination and passed with credit.
In response to the local demand the Government sought two conditions-fund and land from the local people. The problems of land was solved by the selection of a hillock full of jungles that was donated by Phejaram Ghosh and Dr. Manindra Majumder and some others. Besides the students, the teachers, the local folks also offered subscriptions generously.
Sometime in 1964 the honorable chief Commissioner of Tripura Sri Santiprya Mukhopadhyaya paid a visit to Hrishyamukh during his short haltage the enlightened citizens placed their demand for recognition of class IX and X further upgradation of the school into a Higher Secondary School. The recognition and up gradation took place in 1965.
The first batch of ten students from Hrishyamukh Higher Secondary School appeared in the Higher Secondary Examination in 1968 and 100% came out successfully.
Location : From different sources it has been found that the school has been shifted four times with the passage of time. At first the school was at Talpukur of Chakla Bazar adjacent to Indo-Pak border. Then it was shifted to the place where the present colony exists and again it was shifted to the place of Hrishyamukh Primary School. At last in 1965 it was shifted to the present place.
